On the versatility side, I'm pretty sure they are the only faction in the game that gets all three of a basic (non-phalanx) spearmen unit, a phalanx unit, and a heavy infantry unit. Basic horse archers literally have roughly the same per-man upkeep cost as normal archers, despite being vastly stronger in the vast majority of situations, and a unit of cataphract archers has less upkeep than many mid tier infantry units. And finally, cav units are stupidly upkeep efficient in this game.

Overall, that translates to "really strong". And, oh yeah, Armenia also gets the best melee cav in the game (regular Cataphracts) and a solid, cost efficient basic horse archer. In particular they absolutely excel at standard horse archer tactics (I'll come back to this). They are simultaneously the ~3rd best melee heavy cavalry unit in the game and a thoroughly functional horse archer. In particular, Cataphract Archers are (imo) the single strongest unit in the game. On the power side, they have the best cavalry lineup in the game, and cavalry tends to be king in r:tw.

Armenia has both the most powerful roster in the game and the most versatile roster in the game.
